Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate, but that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us. It is not just in some; it is in everyone.
And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
~Nelson Mandela

Writing a testimonial for Aimee DeRoehn is a little like trying to describe the breeze; it's powerfully present - but is felt on an almost indescribable level - and thus - can only be measured by the powerful after effects. I walked into Road Home Power Yoga more than a bit sheepish and insecure. I thought that I'd just crouch over in the corner and progress through the class unnoticed, but Road Home Power Yoga is not called "Road Home" for nothing. It's a home, and Aimee treats every student like family. On that first day, she sat down eye-to-eye with me and encouraged me from the very beginning. I still remember her words, "We were all beginners once; honor yourself for showing up." Well, I must have taken her words to heart, for I just keep showing up and loving every minute of it!
Aimee DeRoehn's presence as a teacher is very unique. She meets her students on a physical, mental, and spiritual level. While practicing, Aimee is active - walking around the room and gently correcting and repositiong poses. She guides like a loving mother - tweaking positions and empowering students to experience the full beauty of yoga. Aimee's powerful words have an effect on a cognitive level as well. With her frequent insistence on "honoring yourself," "feeling your power," etc., she fully engages the mind in positive self-affirmations. After her classes, I can't help but think that, gosh, I might be a pretty darn good person! And finally, Aimee truly meets her students on a spiritual level. She carries a certain powerful grace with her - a unique mix of strength and compassion. And she seems to inhabit a deep sense of knowing about people. She can sense the mind's anguish as presented in the physical body, and engage on a spiritual level to engender greater hope. It truly is a rare gift, and one that should be shared and experienced by others.
Thanks so much, Aimee; you're amazing! J.B.
